DAY 26 UPDATE: Thursday, 03-Mar-2005 9:58 AM
Yet another day of posting... making several in a row. Wonder why I have suddenly done so several times? I suppose I feel better after a long winter, no skiing after nearly 20 years due to a knee injury and things seem to be getting back to normal.
Overall, good and getting better. Let me continue...
This AM I was stuck on an item that I am trying to install at P31 -- A Message Board. It's called YaBB -Yet another Bulletin Board. One of the best message boards. This one is free, surprisingly, for what it does.
I've spent about 3 hrs. installing things over the past 72 hrs. and this AM I was stopped by an error message that seems to have no resolution as it is new and the message board was just upgraded.
Some free stuff. It does end up costing time. However, since I have no rush on doing this and I can wait it out, I will. I think it will need another 8 to 12 hrs. to completely install the beast, but it will add a nice feature to this site: A way of hearing from all the reader and their comments.
But, that leads to another issue that I am having. During the busy week, when I needed to focus on finishing up the maxsimo.com setup to re-launch, I was toiling around with YaBB. Sure it's something that I needed to do. But did it need to get done now? Is it a pressing issue?
On my "to do" list (hard copy, on desk) it was given a "B" and #2 on a task list.
That means that I have multiple "A" tasks and many other #1 issues to deal with and I am messing around with this seemingly 'insignificant' issue --for the time constraints that I have.
Not good.
Now I am leading to a problem that I have consistently had in my entrepreneurial times, and one that has cost me dearly. My focus.
I seem to jump from one item to another, with out focusing on the need at hand.
In this case I need to finish the items open for maxsimo.com and I need to stick to it until I am done.
Having said that I need to 'wrap things up' for my thoughts today and get to doing what I am talking about.
Overall all items are going well as I glance at my 'to do' list. Sure there are events that I am behind on, but that is a normal process.
At times I will get 5 things done in a day and then there are times when 5 days will go by and only 1 item will get done.
No problem. As long as I stick to it. As I have said there have been a lot of positives so far in this exercise.
Perhaps, the foremost is the ability for me to address the issue of web site traffic. This is a 'do or die' issue with a lot of web entrepreneurs. Traffic will build or kill a business on the Internet very quickly. I suppose that is also true in the real world with restaurants and retail businesses. Or for that matter any business from a Doctors office to a Vendor at the street market.
Anyway, p31.com and this project has allowed me to keep working on and keep testing traffic building theories that I have read about. For example, the issue with SEARCH ENGINE registering: At first I thought it was a gimmick and I just tried it. Low and behold, there was traffic starting out. But a quick check of the traffic showed that the 'initial burst' was "BOTS" and "SPIDERS" from the search engines looking over the site.
However, as the weeks and months went by another close look at the traffic showed that REAL PEOPLE and their EYES were indeed looking at my pages. And since I haven't really told anyone that I am working on this, those eyes were real visitors that happened to search and find out the site.
Step by step. Bit by bit. The clock is ticking and so are all the foot steps that are moving along and finding the site.
It works.
So, I must say that I have a renewed optimism and energy about these activities.
Lastly, I also have a sense of "follow thru" about what I am doing. That brings me back to the days of my tennis coach saying "Sam, hit the ball and make sure to follow through!" That goes for here too.
I started it. I must do all that I can to follow thru and make it a real vision, a real project, a real endeavor and some time soon a 31-STEP reality.
