DAY #154
THE ISSUE of FOCUS: FOCUS, FOCUS and FOCUS more at the solutions that are needed.
A kid in a toy store.
With the WORLD @ your finger tips it's easy to stray away. So, I cam up with some tips to resolve the issues, as I had a great problem with my mind wondering.
Email, Other projects/possibilities, External Factors...
UPDATE: Saturday, 05-Nov-2005 1:05 PM
Above are the notes that I wrote about "FOCUS" which I think is essential to succeeding in business or for that matter in anything that you do.
In my case I have written down the priority TO DO ITEMS that I have to make sure to get done, even one before Monday. So, here I am working on it while a kid sleeps and another is out with my wife doing some shopping. Still, it's a great Saturday as I 'pre-launched' the Maxsimo Network last week and now I'll focus on the BACK OFFICE AREA of the user.
One of the notes above says "I feel like a kid in a toy store" --well this is from the time I was a kid -hey not too long ago! --and wen to the Kmart or as I remember a store called Ben Franklins in Carbondale, Illinois in the late 70's (wonder if that place is still there) *FOCUS* Ok, I'll get back to the thought. Anyway, my point is that I went in there with my parents and walked out without anything because I didn't know what to get. I wanted several items when I could only get one.
Since I could not make up my mind, I ended up with nothing. A couple of years later I got a job and resolved this issue, but once again, the problem is still surfacing with work on the Internet.
The problem is that whenever I am researching a task or working on solving a problem I end up wondering into some site with a new idea, a cool application or something that gets my attention and all of a sudden my thoughts have drifted to that idea.
This is a very dangerous issue, problem or what ever you want to call it. This is partly why I started this blog --to FOCUS.
I think only with great focus, by putting 100% of my effort into the solution that is needed, will I be able to resolve some of the issues that I have to deal with. By drifting into things that I run into will not do anything except 'cloud' my goals and muddy the future.
I need to shed the issues that are entering my peripheral --I need to work on the tasks at hand, the issues that *must be resolved*. Perhaps, the only luxury that I need to afford myself is to play my music while doing my work. I have iTUNES on my pc and play my collection of CDs that I have imported into it. It's a great way to relax a bit while doing things that often require a lot of concentration, but the music I think has helped me relax with all that is going on. So, one item that feels good, while I get a bulk of the work done.
Then there are other distractions. I get a lot of email during the day. The worst part of it is that when email is getting checked, I think about every 15 minutes, a little window will pop up at the right side of the screen bottom and show the title and part of the text area. This all the time breaks my concentration. So, I make it a point to run email only about 4 or 5 times a day and at that time focus on the content of the email.
So, I think part of my success is to focus on what the task is at hand. I need to *block* what I see while cruising the Internet. I need to block what I get via email to the times that I allocate to read them.
I need to work with some of the tools that I have setup to manage user questions. In the Maxsimo Network I have now installed a HELPDESK software that helps users answer questions and helps me to manage the questions and answers better.
Once again, the tools are there. The reasons are there. And now I need to execute my plan by getting the items that are on my TO DO LIST done in the order of importance.
Ok, my thoughts for today. Got to go... Back on Monday. Sam out.
