DAY #165
UPDATE: Thursday, 17-Nov-2005 10:59 PM
The end of a long day! Once again, a lot more got done, but I am still nagged by a Linux server that I cannot fully figure out. That is driving me a bit nuts, but with time and persistence I hope to resolve the issue.
I just stated working with MySQL and PHP just a few months ago --July to be exact. Since then I have learned a lot about the setup of Linux, but there are times when figuring out a problem takes a lot of time.
Anyway, what I have done is setup a linux 'box' on my local network where I can test code and the database work that I am doing. More specifically, the database that I have developed for Maxsimo.com.
I think trying to do all the work is a bit too much for the long run, but what I am doing now is developing and testing the basic layout before I let an expert complete all the work at a later time.
After a long and troubled installation, re-installation, I figured out that I can do the development on Windows XP as well, and then convert the pages and database I develop from MySQL and Windows to run on Linux, MySQL and PHP, which is what I wanted to end up with.
So, I have left all of my Linux setup and made the server that I have a dual-boot device that can either startup with Windows or go to Linux.
Either way, I have the database structure on paper, and I now need to make it work on the server and then when I have made it work correctly and it all looks good, I can "port" the work to the live server, which I hope to do before the end of the month.
Anyway, I'll complete the setup and then proceed to testing the database and leaving the rest of the work to a qualified developer. This is one aspect of the work that I don't want to deal with, nor learn as I have enough things to do. Trying to learn PHP coding and optimizing databases is not 'my cup of tea' and trying to do so will only jeopardize the operation I am building.
Now on top of all this, personally, I am hit by the first round of the flu. As you may be well aware of, with kids in schools, when that first round of the flu hits them, then you end up with a version as well. That's what I have now, and it does not feel well.
My remedy so far has been to drink a lot of coffee, sleep a lot and dress warm. I might add that I had some chicken soup.
I'll need to be rather careful as they remaining weeks of the year add lots and lots of stress from all kinds of issues from the presents to kids away from school to the holiday before Christmas. It will all add up and I need to make sure that I have the strength to deal with everything coming my way.
Ok, with that said, I need to move on. Sam out.
