chemicals in the brain, called endorphins, during special circumstances --however, in quantities 100s or if not 1000s of times in strength. Hence the addiction and consequent problems. Anyway, my discussion here extends because the "feelings" of success and the state of mind that it creates in many ways does the same for one, I believe...
Let me mention an example: Ever talk to a sky diver? Wonder why there are people out there that have jumped out of a perfectly fine airplane 5,000 or even 10,000 times in their lifetime? Apparently, the endorphins that are released during a sky dive are the same as those that are release when consuming cocaine. This little bit was learned when I talked to a friend of mine who spends just about every weekend jumping out of an airplane.
BUT, the QUESTION IS: CAN US WHO ARE GLUED to the PC EXPERIENCE the SAME?
I know we can. I don't consider myself 'glued to the pc' but lately it's been close! Still, let me tell you why...
Ever wonder what keeps those rock 'n roll hall of fame inducted stars in their 60's going? Ever wonder why, day after day, year after year, sports stars who could retire easily keep coming back?
Why would they even try to come back? When you watch stars --sports, actors, performers of all types practice their trade on television or just about any other media, you are often looking at the "final product" during which they are the best they can be. It is this state of mind I think that creates an addiction --an addiction to ???
NOW the REASON for the DISCUSSION:
The reason often for striving 100% to attain success is for the "feeling of success" -- the feeling itself is very addictive and results in an "high" that once felt and attained, anyone will not want to part with.
Along their way to success they feel the addictive beginnings. They strive daily to climb their successful steps to the top. Not often is it for the money. Not often is it for the lime-light. So, why do they strive day after day to be 'winners' at what they do?
Now to the basic problem: How do mere mortals such as you and I experience the "success", the enduring "high" that we see the "successful" living every day?
The answer is "one step at a time" experiencing small successes. Often the problem is that we are after 'grand elusions' that are very hard to come by. These are goals that are almost impossible to attain, yet we set them time after time only to fail.
The solution to this problem is to set a GRAND GOAL, but then break it down to dozen, if not hundreds of small steps that you can work on bit by bit. That is what I have been doing by starting the 31-STEP process: working on the successful steps bit by bit, resolving problems and then moving on to the next item. I have to say that they are not "problems" per se, but they are "challenges" that I have to overcome. Anyway, the idea is to experience small successes --one by one and then as that sinks in, and the momentum is built, one will experience a "big" success here and there. Eventually, they all add up.
That is what success is all about and that has been occurring STEP by STEP over the past years, and written about here almost two years.
Sam's conversation is continued on the next day...

------------Business Success Wisdom for the Day:
Text file with business success tips at p31.com
The problem with most failing businesses is not that their owners don't know enough about finance, marketing, management, and operations -- they don't, but those things are easy enough to learn -- but that they spend their time and energy defending what they think they know. My experience has shown me that the people who are exceptionally good in business aren't so because of what they know but because of their insatiable need to know more. - Michael Gerber
