We talked much of the time about what he's doing and what programs he uses and where things are headed. One of the things he pointed out about p31.com was that I had too many ads on the site. At the top I had two sets of Google Adsense ads, for the total of 8 ads displaying. The program there was that the ads not only dilute in quantity and they also do so in quality --quality of what is paid.

It is possible in some cases for the first ads to pay $2.00 when clicked, and the second ad to pay $0.20 (cents), causing a huge disparity in the amounts paid out to publishers. With this site displaying many ads, it was possible that the bottom half of the displayed ads were not making anything at all. What I needed to do was re-establish the quality of the ads that were on the site. I immediately changed the ad format to display one set of Adsense on each page.

There were other discussions about what it takes to look good in the eyes of search engines, and much of that discussion was about getting links from other sites and services. In fact, I know from experience at p31.com that when I mention a site on the blog that is visited daily by the googlebots and various other search engine bots, the other site two gets a visit. As I say this, there are around a half dozen such 'spiders' coming by here daily. May be even more.

Now my challenge is to absorb all the techniques and then come up with a tool that can help our Members accomplish the same using the online tool. Anyway, that is another matter for later discussion.

One of the conclusions of the discussion was that it's essential to have links from other sites, but even better, it's a must to have links from other well ranked sites. I have an idea on how to accomplish this feat and I'll indeed put it into a tool for the future.

It is also important to observe a point that I made earlier when I noted that the amounts of sites that are delivering visitors to p31.com keeps increasing on a monthly basis. That will only continue until there are thousands of links sites coming back here. That of course leads to more and more visitors. That resolves again to direct more sites to link here. Now you see the point? The point is that all this has to start some where, and earlier the better. If you contemplate for months and then years about doing it, but "do nothing about it" then you're just a victim of your procrastination. However, if you write a page a day, or update your web site once a week or a few times a week --all the actions take you one step forward to your intended goals!
