The error messages then turned into ugly messages that resulted in Windows XP not booting. Then the entire pc would not boot. At first I narrowed the problem down to bad memory. I removed 1 gig of the RAM in the PC and it booted to the first error message.
After a lot of troubleshooting I got the Windows XP installation going again and tried the recovery console. That did not work. Further reading on the subject on the Internet via my laptop informed me that the problem was common to upgrades. Since I use pc that I have built, I know inside/out what could go wrong. So, I carefully went about installing a new version of Windows XP on the PC. With a RAID array using SATA type drives, this is not as straight forward as it may seem. I don't even have a floppy drive on this particular pc, so it was down on the knees installing a floppy first. Then I installed the RAID driver and proceeded to make the fresh XP installation.
The good news is that, apart from a few days loss of emails, I am back to nearly 100% operational functionality and several of the processes that I discussed in the BLOG with regard to backup of data and working files proved worth it's advice 100%. For example, the use of the ROBO FORMS program to keep my usernames and passwords worked flawlessly as it was transferred to the new setup and works just like it did remembering all the sites and their access info. The books marks from IE also transferred just as easily.
Things have sure changed from about 5 years ago, when a problem such as this most of the time meant that you had to go buy a new HD and setup things all over and hope and pray that the data was there!
NOW ON TO Maxsimo.NET 2.0:
All the work to get the next generation of tools and services keeps going. I am mainly responsible for the architecture, while programming will do the rest of the work, until it comes time to test things. I think it will take the rest of the month to have complete functionality on the network, and then another 3 months to get Maxsimo.NET 2.0 out.
While all of this goes on, I want to focus on something that I have avoided for the large part:
SALES
This is one particular part of all this --ecommerce as we call it --that we tend to avoid to the last minute. In the end sales are what defines what will work commercially and what will not. All the great ideas that are floating on the net do not mean much at all until there are paying customers for the products and services that they offer.
In the case of Maxsimo.NET, the start was good and things got off to "great numbers" but since then not much has happened to add a lot of fuel to the fire. Now I have to light the fuel again.
Looking at what I have to do, the focus needs to be on what is working and helping our current Representatives get their "show on the road" with the tools that are functioning. Then I need to talk about the possibilities and get as many of the Representatives to upgrade their Memberships. And to get new Members coming into the network.
I will use much of the rest of the day to make a plan. Well, it's good to be back. I didn't really get any time off but I did get to think about what was happening and what needed to be done. Sometimes, stepping back and looking at that is a good thing! Carpe Diem, Sam out.
