HEATH is WEALTH, BE WELL!
All this time I have talked little about health. As I have said several times "all the business success in anything is worthless when Friends, Family and Health are left behind" and in my case my health took a beating when I took on all the work, including some programming after firing the original "team of programmers".
Now I am getting back to 'normal'. As hard as it is to believe, I have started to jog. The shocker is that I am doing it before going to work. I have been sleeping on time as well, going to sleep around 10pm, and most often before 11pm. I think to the large part my weight and muscle mass deteriorated when I stopped exercising back in 2003. Then I went through 2 stressful years. Now things are looking up, and much of the success is by doing things little by little.
I gave the example of sit ups. I had tried to do sit ups in the past and on the first attempt I would do around 200, after some considerable pain and effort. However, when I started back this time I just did 50 --two sets of 25. Then I built it up to 4 sets. Now I no I can easily do around 500 sit ups, but I try to keep it to around 200, doing 25 sit ups times 8 sets. Next I hope to increase it to 35 sit ups and the same 8 sets. Eventually, my goal is to reach 10 sets with 50 each. Each set will then take just 2 minutes and it's all done in about 20 minutes.
In the case of jogging, which I absolutely hate, except on the Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls Maryland, I am making strides. I have run a marathon before, but in this case I just want to work up to a fast 10 KM to keep it manageable and quick. Any more than that and I'll be late to work. Perhaps, by Thanksgiving Holiday time (end of November) I can lose the 20 pounds that I had put on in the second half of last year. I went to this page to calculate my ideal body weight >> I think doctor Steven B. Halls, MD seems to have a very accurate system and although it is a little more work on my part to reach the 'benchmarks' the web site outputs, I think "health is wealth", so, I'll make sure to get to that point. For my height of 6' (six feet) 4" (inches) the ideal weight is around 190 lbs. As I write this I am at 215 and close to 40 years. Let me try that thought again: and still 30-something. {B>)
That pretty much "raps up" the state of the 'journey' after many, many months. I suppose there are a lot more grand steps to come, but I'll take each one, one at a time. Life is better enjoyed on the slow road!
Well, this was written in the previous days, little by little, and today I am off on a walk that is to last around 6 hours --I hope around 30 KM (20 miles or so). As always my notepad goes with me. Those ideas, thoughts, revelations, etc. will be shared in the coming days. Back tomorrow. Carpe Diem, Webmaster*SAM out. PS: Thanks for reading my blog!
