that that is basically what Google does in the search engine ranking system as well.
The ART of SEARCH ENGINE WARFARE
There are literally millions of people out there that are focusing on a handle of key words, including myself and working on making a living at doing that. The problem at least for Google is that there are many people out there doing what ever method they can get a hold of and cheat all they can to get the job done.
The methods employed by people to get good search engine rankings are endless. And so are the "countermeasures" deployed by Google and the many other search engines to weed through the 'trash' and find the gems. When the tanks first started rolling during World War I they basically had two treads and some steel plating and a machine gun. Then as the opposing side made their own countermeasures, the tanks had to get more sophisticated. Perhaps, the gun got bigger or the engine got stronger and the machine faster. It was a case of "tit for tat" and the arms race was on.
In the search engine "wars" the operations are the same. As I said there are millions of people out there that are trying to punch up their ranking in various searches and doing everything to prove several PHd Engineers on a California Corporate Campus wrong. Who will win? That is a $100 billion dollar question. I am certain in the end there will be no winner. Google will just be another company that will find it's place online, not much different than it is now. WHile there will be another army of people out there chipping away at it. That is already happening.
OFFENSIVE MEASURES by NETIZENS
There seems to be about every six months a "latest and greatest" way to "fool" the search engines by a great "tip or trick" that someone comes up with. The problem is that when such information is exposed, the search engines are very quick to shut it down. There is only on exception to this rule.
Take for example the latest craze where people are spending countless time improving their search ranking by exchanging links with other sites. There are hundreds of places where links can be exchanged.
But guess what Google is doing as a countermeasure to this exploit? They are looking at the linking "anchor" words that are used. If the same words are used over and over to link back to a site they are disregarding those links as an obvious process of "link creation" and not an organic occurrence of naturally shared link.
The exploits and countermeasures go on and on --there will be no end to it. One day people will wise up and realize that the best way to get the best out of search engines is the have good content. I think I have served myself well by focusing on the content and not getting overly anxious about what the latest craze is all about.
OF COURSE, BiiG.COM is OUR NETWORK'S OWN GAME PLAN
I worked on the site for several months and now generation one is operational. Now I have a set of improvements that are getting worked on. The next objective is to insert several tools that help those who post directory listings and those improvements are also on their way. I am very excited to launch all the services. At the same time I'll look around to enter several of my own links that representatives have failed to put up as well. Ok, a long day. Got to go! Carpe Diem, Sam.
