Over the three deliveries I kept my mouth shut, apart from the normal awe going thru the process and forgetting that my jaw was dropping, I have managed the situation.
Well, suffice it to say, I better not mention too much, as I may get into trouble for the first time. The bottom line: NO JOKES!
So, this week, as busy as it was shuttling between work and the hospital and various other stuff, I got burned out. I am no road worrier of any type. I burn the long hours at the PC, but I cannot handle more than a 10 minute commute, so driving around anywhere is not my forte.
This week I did a lot of it, but in the end I took two hours to make sure the house was a very welcome place with lots of flowers for the mother and daughter.
A WELCOME HOME CHECKLIST:
The executed checklist had flowers -- I ended up with about three dozen roses. Not a difficult thing to do several months away from Valentines Day.
My next task was to put welcome notes and balloons around with "IT'S a GIRL" all over. The new color in the house is PINK! All shades of pink. That's not too bad after having two guys. Anyway, that got done.
Lastly, the time killer was the cleaning. We have someone to watch the kids, but I couldn't ask her to do any cleaning, so I took that task upon myself and cleaned most of the house and van. I don't think there's anything a new mother appreciates more than a clean house and kitchen when she comes home, with a nice fresh smell. Well, it's difficult to compete with the hospital's army of staff running around cleaning things, but I called her and asked for one extra hour to get that done.
The way I look at cleaning is by comparing it to a workout. To me it makes little difference if I burn 500 or 800 calories at a workout or while cleaning the house. Of course, I can say this because I don't do it that often --cleaning the house that is.
The workout -- well, once I drag myself to the gym, I am on a natural high for 2 hours, so that is not a problem at all. The problem is when I make the workout too late, and then cannot get to sleep for anther two hours, but that is another modification of the daily activity, which I hope to do when I move my work to a new office this fall.
In the end all worked out well, even for a "PC GUY" who lives much of the time in a practically "virtual world". Well, it's nice to often "smell the flowers" and enjoy the little things in life. Today I did that, and had a great day. I hope there are a lot more of those days to come!
I suppose even today I am running on a high... that's been going on for 16 or 17 hours. I think I better get some rest. Sam out. Carpe Diem and a great weekend...
