ROOF UPDATE: I have flown a small plane over populated areas and it always scared me to see a "sea of black" home roofs. I thought that something like this is a much better idea. Take a look at the site with "green" roof tops. >> The idea is a rather simple one, and one that I have seen practiced in much grander scale, and frequency in the Netherlands, where I spend a lot of time. |

I think such a roof will greatly help cool the home in the summer and keep it warm in the winter. I cannot remember the number, but I am certain that the "R" factor of such a roof is comparable to a 3 foot thick insulated brick wall for example. It is amazing how dirt can help keep the elements out, while making it wonderful to live inside. I am not sure why many people don't do this, but then again, this is a growing trend that we'll see much more often.
